What is PersonalBestPace?
PersonalBestPace is an AI cycling coach built for riders who train with power. It pulls your rides in from Strava, models your fitness over time, and writes a periodized plan that adjusts as your form changes. This is a cycling-specific tool, not a general running app, and a lot of what it does only makes sense once it has your power data to work with.
The app lives on the web at app.personalbestpace.com and on Android as "PBP - AI Cycling Training." There is a free tier, and Premium unlocks the actual coaching.
Key Features
CTL, ATL and TSB fitness modeling
It tracks the classic training load picture: Chronic Training Load for fitness, Acute Training Load for fatigue, and Training Stress Balance for form. On top of that it follows your FTP, your power curve across different durations, and TSS scoring (which it can estimate even if you ride without a power meter). This is the data the rest of the app builds on.
Conversational AI coach
The coaching is the part that stands out. You can talk to the AI coach, push back on a workout you do not like, and ask it to explain why it set the plan the way it did. It offers different coach styles too, so you can pick a data-driven approach or something more motivational depending on what keeps you riding.
Adaptive periodized plans
Instead of a fixed block you follow to the letter, the plan reshapes itself week by week around your schedule, your goals, and how your training is actually going. Premium is where the AI weekly planning and the deeper periodization live.
Multi-source import
It connects to Strava, Garmin, and Wahoo, so your rides land automatically without manual entry. On the free tier the Strava and Garmin sync is already included. When the coach hands you a workout, Premium can send it straight to your Garmin or Wahoo head unit in one tap.
Post-ride power debriefs
After a session it looks at your actual power numbers and zone distribution and gives you a detailed debrief, so you get more than a green checkmark for finishing the ride.
Who it's for
This one is for self-coached cyclists who care about numbers. If you ride with power, know roughly what FTP and TSS mean, and want structure without paying a human coach every month, PersonalBestPace is aimed squarely at you. If you mostly ride for fun and do not track power, a lot of the value here will pass you by. The free tier is worth a look on its own for the performance tracking, and you can decide later whether the AI coaching earns the upgrade.
