Zwift vs ROUVY: which should you use in 2026?

First, the news

Zwift completed its acquisition of ROUVY on April 29, 2026. Per both companies, the two apps continue to operate independently with separate roadmaps and separate subscriptions — Zwift's CEO called ROUVY's experience “proof we can be stronger together,” and ROUVY's founder promised it “will continue to be the ROUVY you all know and love.” The first practical effect: Zwift Ready trainers and the Zwift Ride smart frame now work with ROUVY. So this is no longer a rivalry — it's two deliberately different products under one roof, and you still have to pick one (or pay for both).

The short answer

If you want racing, a big crowd, and a game that keeps score, Zwift is still the obvious call — its million-strong community and 24/7 race calendar have no real rival. If you would rather climb real Alpine passes, ride IRONMAN courses, or preview Giro stages on professionally filmed video — and especially if two people in your house train — ROUVY is cheaper per rider and arguably syncs deeper with Strava.

The real difference: a game world vs the real world

Zwift renders 3D computer-generated worlds. Watopia, its flagship island, is always open (and got its first road expansion since 2019 this year), with guest worlds like London, New York, and Makuri Islands rotating monthly, a Climb Portal of iconic ascents, and hundreds of kilometers of virtual road. The physics, drafting, power-ups, and levels make it feel like a massively multiplayer game that happens to be a workout.

ROUVY plays real video. Its catalog is over 1,500 filmed routes (its own pages claim up to 2,000+ with augmented-reality riders overlaid on the footage) — US National Parks, official IRONMAN courses, Giro d'Italia stages, and gravel routes, shot by professional videographers. Since March 2026 ROUVY is an official Giro d'Italia training partner. You can even film and upload your own local roads with its Route Creator. It feels less like a game and more like riding somewhere you've always wanted to go.

Pricing in 2026

Zwift is one plan: $19.99 a month or $199.99 a year, with a 14-day free trial on the monthly plan (annual plans skip the trial but refund in full within 30 days).

ROUVY undercuts it, especially for households. Solo is $19.99 a month or $179.99 a year, but the DUO plan covers two riders for $29.99 a month ($249.99/year) and GROUP covers up to five for $59.99 a month. Every plan has a 7-day free trial, you can pause for up to 180 days, and there's a limited free version capped at 20 km a month. If you and a partner both train indoors, ROUVY DUO costs roughly what one Zwift membership does.

How each one works with Strava

Both auto-upload every session to Strava once you connect your account. Zwift's uploads carry your power, heart rate, and cadence, you can attach an in-game video clip to the Strava activity, and Zwift segments count toward Strava Local Legends.

ROUVY goes further in both directions: it pushes completed sessions (warm-ups and cool-downs included) to Strava automatically, pulls your outdoor Strava rides back in — where they earn Career XP — and supports Strava Live Segments while you ride. Racing and training

Zwift's racing scene is the product for a lot of people: events around the clock from beginner races to national championships, the Zwift Racing League, RoboPacer group rides at every pace, thousands of structured workouts, and adaptive training plans. ROUVY counters with Career mode — more than 100 levels from Starter to Legend, with XP earned from workouts, races, group rides, challenges, and even your imported outdoor rides — plus segments with KOM/QOM leaderboards on 1,800+ routes, official races, and pro-led group rides with names like Wout van Aert and Kat Matthews through its Visma–Lease a Bike and Lidl–Trek partnerships.
