If the official sync is not enough
- Health Sync. Syncs activities and health data between Strava and other platforms like Garmin, Huawei, and Fitbit. You can filter what syncs by activity type, distance, and duration.
How to set it up
- Open Samsung Health on your Android phone.
- Tap the ellipses in the top right of the main screen, then Settings.
- Scroll down to Services and toggle Strava on.
- Authorise the connection when Strava asks.
What reaches Strava
- GPS-based activities recorded in Samsung Health, once they have finished uploading there
What comes back from Strava
- Route information and activity type
- Distance, time and calories
- Activities Strava itself received from other connected services also carry on to Samsung Health
Limitations and gotchas
- iOS is not supported. Strava states it is not possible to connect to Strava from the Samsung Health app on iOS.
- Activities without GPS data do not sync to Strava at all. A treadmill run or a gym session stays in Samsung Health, and the only way to show it on Strava is to post an image of the stats by hand.
- There is no documented historical backfill. Expect the connection to start working from the day you switch it on.
- Health Connect is not a workaround for this. Strava writes activity data into Health Connect and reads only weight back out, so it never picks up workouts that Samsung Health put there. Samsung also notes its activity tracker data is not synchronised with Health Connect.
- Samsung's own support site does not document the Strava toggle. Strava's help centre is the authoritative source, which is worth knowing if the setting moves.
