Nike Run Club

A free running app with a coach in your ear — and a one-way road to Strava.

Nike's free running app, with audio Guided Runs, training plans and challenges. Connecting it to Strava pushes every run you record in Nike Run Club (and every Nike Training Club workout) across automatically — but the sync only goes that one way

What is Nike Run Club?

Nike Run Club is Nike's running app: a GPS tracker wrapped around a large library of audio-coached runs. You record a run on your phone or Apple Watch, and NRC logs pace, location, distance, elevation, heart rate and mile splits. What sets it apart from most trackers is the voice — Guided Runs are full sessions with a Nike coach talking you through them, and Nike's own November 2024 announcement put the library at roughly 300 of them alongside six training plans. All of it is free with a Nike Member account. There is no paid tier, no premium analytics, no card.

The Strava relationship is the thing to understand before you commit. Nike and Strava have an official integration, and it is deliberately one-directional. Strava's help centre states it plainly: the integration "will only push your activities from Nike apps to Strava and cannot pull activity data recorded from other devices/apps from Strava." So NRC becomes a recording source that feeds your Strava profile. It never becomes a place to see the rides, swims or Garmin-recorded runs already sitting in Strava.

You set the connection up from the Nike side, not the Strava side — profile initials, Settings, Partners, Strava. And it's a package deal with the strength app: Strava notes that setting up the connection in either Nike Run Club or Nike Training Club enables syncing for both, so NTC's yoga, HIIT and weight-training sessions start landing in your Strava feed as the matching sport type too.

Key Features

Audio Guided Runs

Coach-led sessions you listen to while you run — recovery runs, speed intervals, first 5Ks, long runs — with Nike coaches and athletes talking through pacing and effort in real time. Nike flags in both store listings that Guided Runs are only available in select countries, without publishing the list.

Training plans, in nine countries

Plans from a four-week Get Started through 5K, 10K, half marathon and a 12-week marathon build. The asterisk in Nike's own store listings is worth reading: training plans are available in the US, UK, Japan, China, Brazil, France, Germany, Spain and Italy. Elsewhere you get the tracker and the Guided Runs, if those reach you.

Challenges and trophies

Create a challenge and share it with friends — Nike's example is "Let's all run three miles by Tuesday" — or join a community one. Completing it drops a trophy into your Achievements, alongside streaks and personal bests. Friends can send in-run audio cheers that interrupt your music mid-run.

Shoe tagging

Tag a run with a pair and NRC keeps a per-shoe mileage counter, then nudges you when a pair is worn out. It also records your pace per pair, which is a mildly addictive way to find out that your race shoes are, in fact, faster.

Apple Watch app

The watch app is still shipping — the App Store listing carries an Apple Watch app and requires watchOS 10.0 or later. Runs recorded on the watch sync back to the phone, and heart rate captured there (or from a paired sensor) rides along to Strava. Strava adds one wrinkle: calories only get calculated on a Nike activity when heart rate was recorded.

Live run location sharing

Added in late 2024 and free: generate a link and send it to anyone, and they can watch your real-time location, distance, average pace and duration while you're out. Strava charges for its equivalent.

Who It's For

  • New runners who want a structured voice in their ear rather than a wall of numbers, and don't want to pay for it
  • Strava users who record on their phone and want their runs on Strava without touching a second app after the run
  • Nike Training Club users whose strength and yoga sessions should count in the same Strava feed as their runs
  • Runners outside Nike's nine training-plan countries who should check what's actually available to them before building a season around it
