What is Wandrio?
Wandrio is a tile-hunting game built for the phone. The world map is cut into squares, and you collect one by going there in person, on foot, by bike, on skis or in a kayak. Motorized travel doesn't count. Its makers describe it as an exploration game rather than a fitness app: it rewards going somewhere new, not going fast.
It comes from Wandrio Oy, a small team in Espoo, Finland. Updates are frequent; as of October 11, 2026 the App Store showed version 1.62.87.
Key Features
Three tile sizes
Normal tiles carry all the stats. On top of them sit minitiles (1/16 of a tile) and microtiles (1/64), so a walk around the block still adds something. Wandrio's own blog says normal tiles and microtiles are the ones most players use.
Clusters and megatiles
A cluster is a group of tiles where each one has visited neighbors on all four sides. Your megatile is the largest square you've filled in completely: a 10x10 megatile means every tile in a 10-by-10 block.
Titles on every tile
Each tile has three titles to compete for. The Finder visited it first, the Legend has visited it most often, and the Mayor has visited it most in the last 90 days.
Seasons and leaderboards
In a season everyone starts from an empty map, so a new player can rank next to someone with years of tiles. Joining is opt-in. Points come mostly from new tiles (512 for a tile no player has visited before, 256 for one that's new to you), with smaller amounts for growing clusters and megatiles and for microtiles. Wandrio says the point system is still being tuned. There are also team rankings, added in October 2026.
Friends
Follow friends (both sides approve), compare tile maps to see who is missing what, and compare titles and points. That's useful when planning a group outing.
Owning a tile
The app's first paid feature, launched in August 2026: buy a tile through the App Store or Google Play and it's yours to rename, with a message for anyone who visits. Wandrio says owned tiles will bring points and gameplay benefits later and that the game will never be pay-to-win.
Who It's For
- Walkers and runners who want to try tile hunting without a sports watch, since the phone does the recording
- Strava and Garmin users who'd like their existing history on the map from day one
- Competitive types, who get per-tile titles and seasons that reset everyone's map
Worth Knowing
The browser version at game.wandrioapp.com exists, but Wandrio's community page says it's used to test features, may have bugs and isn't designed for desktop yet. The apps are the main way in.
A tile can go missing when the GPS track Strava passes along is isn't accurate enough, say if you passed through fast or only a few meters in. Tapping the tile shows an "I think I have been here" button, and Wandrio then fetches a more detailed version of nearby activities.
Route planning inside the app, GPX upload and connections for Polar, Apple, Wahoo and others are on Wandrio's public list of requests, marked as in the backlog (as of October 2026).
