What is Roast My Strava?
Roast My Strava connects to your Strava account and uses AI to write a roast of your training: your whole profile, a single activity, your month or your year. It reads your bio, your stats, your recent activities and your profile photo. Each roast comes out as a card sized for a screenshot, and the month and year roasts end with something to do about it. It also writes titles for activities still called Morning Run, either three at a time when you ask or automatically as new activities upload, and it can add a short roast to each new activity too.
It was built by Jason Kuperberg over a weekend in September 2024, as an experiment in pointing a language model at the Strava API, and it spread through shared screenshots. In October 2025 Strava gave it an App of the Year award for "Community Motivation" at the Strava Developer Summit, and that December the story of building it ran in Developer Voices on the Strava blog. Its about page puts it at more than 100,000 athletes.
Key Features
Profile roasts
The whole account: profile photo, bio, location, all-time and recent run and ride totals, and recent activities with their names and descriptions. The model reads the photo as well as the text, through multimodal analysis. You set the heat on a slider or switch on Extra Mean, and pick miles or kilometers.
Activity roasts
One workout, picked from your recent activities or by activity ID, and roasted on the specifics: pace, elevation, start time, heart rate and power if you have them, the name you gave it, kudos and comments, and the photo. The slider runs from 1 to 10, with Extra Mean past that, and the page says it stays away from your body, health and injuries at every level. You can copy the roast, save the card, or add it to the activity's description on Strava, where it goes under a small Roast My Strava header. Three activities a day.
Year Roasted and Month Roasted
Year Roasted reads your totals for the year so far (runs, rides and swims) and your recent activities, and writes the mean version of a year-in-review, ending with a reason to finish the year strong. December is its year-in-review season; from February to November it roasts the year so far, and January is off. An Instagram trend of athletes posting theirs in December 2025 is what carried the app past 100,000 users. Month Roasted does the same for a single month, as a shorter roast that also ends with a push: the month that just ended, or in the last seven days of a month, the month so far. Neither needs a Strava subscription.
Title generator
A separate tool from the roasting. It reads an activity's distance, moving time, elevation, start time, location, sport, description and main photo, and writes three titles in a tone you pick: Funny, Roast, Clever, Hype, Plain, or Me, which copies how you name your own activities and appears once you've named at least five recent ones yourself. You can add a keyword to steer it. Tap Set on Strava and the title goes onto the activity, with a one-line Roast My Strava credit added to the description. Undo puts the old name back and removes the credit. Eight sets of titles a day. On Strava the caption most people mean is the activity title, so this is also a caption generator. Automatic titles and roasts (early access)
Switched on from the settings page, automatic titles rename new activities that still carry a default name (Morning Run, Lunch Ride, Evening Walk) about five seconds after they upload, using that activity's distance, pace, hour, climbing, place and photo. Same styles as the title generator, plus Training, which names the session like a training log with no jokes. It only touches activities uploaded after you switch it on, and it leaves alone anything you named yourself. Private activities get titles too, and stay private. Rename one of its titles and that activity is never touched again. Every title shows in your history with Undo and Get another.
Automatic roasts are a second switch: a two-sentence roast, written the same way as the activity roast, goes in under your own description. Every automatic title also adds one line at the end of the description, "Titled by www.roastmystrava.com". Your own description is not changed or removed. The public page doesn't say the credit line can be switched off. Both are free during early access, and one switch on the settings page turns each off; anything already written stays unless you undo it.
Shareable images
Profile, activity, month and year roasts each come as a card sized for a story or a group chat, which is how the app spread.

Is Roast My Strava free?
Yes. Its about page says the AI costs are paid by the maker, so each tool has a daily limit: three activity roasts and eight sets of titles, for example. Sharing a title unlocks two more sets; for more roasts, the about page says to share one, send the maker the proof and ask. Automatic titles and roasts are free during early access. No subscription, no payment.
What does it ask Strava for, and what happens to my data?
Login goes through Strava's own authorization screen, which asks for profile:read_all, activity:read_all (all activities, private ones included) and activity:write, which is what lets it set titles and add text to descriptions. The privacy and terms page lists the same three permissions and says it keeps usage logs and basic profile information for analytics, that it counts site visits with a random ID in your browser and no cookies or IP address, and that it only accesses your account when you use the app, except automatic titles and roasts, which, once turned on, read each new upload and write its title or add to its description (both can be switched off, and anything written can be undone). Sharing your email means occasional emails from the maker, which you can unsubscribe from, and you can ask for your data to be deleted. The title generator page says it doesn't train models on your data. You can revoke access at any time from your Strava apps settings.
Can I roast my friends?
No. You can only roast your own account. You can share your roast and send them the link.
